What is Aluminum PCBs?

Aluminum PCBs are printed Circuit Boards which contain a thin layer of conductive dielectric material. They are also known as Aluminum Clad, Aluminum base, MCPCB (Metal Clad Printed Circuit Board), IMS (Insulated Metal Substrate), Thermally Conductive PCBs etc.

Structure of Aluminum PCBs

Base layer

The base layer is made of a aluminum substrate that offers high thermal conductivity and heat transfer than CCL.

Dielectric layer

The Dielectric layer is thermally conductive and is around 50μm to 200μm thick. It had a low thermal resistance and it was suitable for its application.

Circuit layer

Copper foil makes up the circuit layer relatively 1oz-10oz, it is thicker than normal CCLs. A thicker layer of copper means a larger current-carrying capacity.

Solder Mask layer

A variety of color-selectable solder mask layer, enrich the PCB design, and has a high reverse ink option, improve the reflective efficiency

Kinds of Aluminum Based PCB
